RE: Slide Out Dead

I have a Forest River Cardinal and mine has a couple of tiny buttons on what almost looks like a terminal block within a foot or so of the battery where the red(+) cable hooks in from the battery. I had NO battery power when these tiny buttons where kicked.

Gen Use in W-M or Flying J Quick Overnighter?

It's a hot summer night and we're on the road and make a stop in a Walmart or Flying J parking lot to get a few hours sleep before hitting the road again. Do we use the generator and A/C?

Cleaning Oil Spots from Caulking

My diesel truck blew an o-ring on the high pressure pump this weekend on our way back from a trip...twice, long story. Approximately, 6 gallons of oil blew out my motor, under the truck and splattered along the sides of my 31'tt. I am able to wash the oil off the fiberglass sides, etc. with regular diluted Turtle Wax car wash soap an water, but it doesn't seem to remove the oil splaters from the caulking. Anyone have any experience with removing oil splatters from the caulking, before I start experiementing with various cleaners?

RE: ruby's inn utah...tonight

The best ride(most scenic) in the area IMHO is Castro Canyon. Pine Lake up to Powell Point is nice and there are lots of trails around Tropic Reserviour. Good trout fishing at both Pine lake and Tropic. We did Moab, then Bryce w/ our atv's and tt a couple years ago and it was an awesome trip!

RE: Where to ride in MS, LA, AR areas

In AR, I second Wolf Pen Gap and Mill Creek. Also, North of Russelville, AR ~20 miles is Mocassin Gap riding area. Lots of trails from easy to challenging, streams, water falls.. a beautiful area.

RE: Silverton CO

We stayed at Silver Summit RV Park last year. It is right on the edge of the town of Silverton. It is an RV park not a campground. Advantages are the full hook ups, even cable tv, close to town for resturants, shopping, etc. Sites are not that roomy, no fire rings, more and closer people. 4runnerguy had some good advice for campgrounds. Molas Lake is a beautiful location and the trout fishing is great. South Mineral is close also. We only had a week last year, but plan to return to SS and Silverton for two weeks this year. Since we're fairly new to the rv'ing deal and have a 31'tt we've stuck to the rv parks so far. We plan to check out both these campgrounds this year to make sure the roads are ok and there is plenty room for our rig. We will plan to boondock or use one of these campgrounds the next time we come to Silverton.
We take our atv's and ride the back country trails. The scenery is un-matched anywhere, streams, waterfalls, mountains, valleys, old mines, ghost towns, wildflowers...... I highly recommend this even if you have to rent atv's or a jeep.

RE: Utah in July

a45automan, you're trip sounds awesome. We did a Leadville,CO/Moab/Bryce year before last in September and really enjoyed both Moab & Bryce as a change of pace from CO. We did Taylor a couple years in a row and loved it. Last year we rode the Silverton/Ouray,CO area for a week and it just wasn't enough time. We're going back to that area again this year for two weeks. The scenery in this area is a little better than Taylor, but you share the trails with more folks...lots of jeeps, etc.

RE: Utah in July

Taylor Park will give you a nice cooldown on the way home from the Utah heat to the Kansas heat. As far as must do trails from Taylor....Mt. Antero; Tin Cup/St. Elmo/Pitkin loop; Flag Mt.; Tomichi Pass/Alpine Tunnel; Pearl Pass to name a few.

RE: Paiute trail and more of Utah.

I would suggest the Moab area and also near Bryce Canyon. We rode both those areas 2 years ago in September and had a great time. Moab may be hot in July, but the Bryce area has some elevation and should be cooler. Castro Canyon & Pine Lake/Powell Point are must do rides in the BC area. If you decide to do Moab, I can also suggest several great atv rides.

RE: Exhaust Brake & TC Control

Turbys_03_Stroke, do you have this exhaust brake on your truck? I'm wondering what is the difference between this SP brake and a BD diesel brake which actually has a butterfly valve assembly, etc. and costs a lot more??

Exhaust Brake & TC Control

I kind of tacked this on to another post, but would like input from those who may have added an exhaust brake and torque converter controls.
I have an '01 7.3l dully and pull a 31'tt and carry 2 atv's on the bed. My truck has no engine/exhaust brake and it is a white knuckel experience keeping the speed down in the mountains of CO. My trans. also heats up on the downhills. I'm looking at adding an exhaust brake and torque converter control system which I'm told will keep my trans. from slipping and getting hot on the downhills w/ the exhaust brake. Will I get any help on the uphill side?

RE: Trouble with slide out

I'll second checking the battery connections. My big slide wouldn't come in at random times even though the smaller slide would and then eventually after fooling with the switch in/out it would work. This would happen even when hooked to land power. My dealer said that the slide also required a fully charged battery. I checked the battery and found the negative cable loose. After tightening and charging the battery good, I've not had any more problems.

RE: 2 ATV's, Backroads, Big Truck = ?

Our solution to this problem was an atv rack for the bed of my truck and a tt. Most of the time you cannot ride from campgrounds, so we leave the tt and drive to the trailheads w/ the atv's on the rack.
Use this link - http://community.webshots.com/user/jimc333
and go to the album..."The Rig" to see the rack, loading, etc.
The other albumns are pic's from our adventures. We had "the rig" the last two years for Colorado and Utah trips.

RE: Slide out not coming in

I just had a similar problem. The small BR slide would come in, but the large LR/DR slide would start to come in only a couple inches and stop. If I kept playing with the in/out I finally was able to get it in. I talked to the dealer just yesterday and bottom line, you need to make sure you have a fully charged battery because the shore power is not enough to power the big slide by itself. When I checked my battery, I found the wing nut on the negative terminal very loose so the cable was hardly making contact. He also reminded me to check the water in the battery, which I had not done. I hope this helps.
